“God said, “Let the earth put forth grass, seed-producing plants, and fruit trees, each yielding its own kind of seed-bearing fruit, on the earth”; and that is how it was. The earth brought forth grass, plants each yielding its own kind of seed, and trees each producing its own kind of seed-bearing fruit; and God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:11-12).
In the very beginning God created life in various forms. The planet would be key in helping to sustain life as He filled the soil and commanded production—everything good for the nutrition of both animal and mankind were made. Eventually it would become known which plants were best for specific areas of health and which would target and heal certain ailments.
"God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so." (Genesis 1:29,30)
Our Creator paved the pathway of reproduction through little seeds; so that, when buried in furtile soil mankind could reap a plentiful harvest from a vast variety of foods. This promise was not only given to us but also for every living creature on the earth.
"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them." (1 Cor. 6:12-13)
While free will does afford us choice, we must weigh the costs of every decision we make before acting. Remembering that our decisions are not all beneficial to our health. Most have conditions or consequences attached. Some for reward, and some with punishment! Everything God creates and commands brings blessing...when we understand and follow wisely.
"I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back word to him as it was in my heart…I wholly followed the Lord my God. And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years…here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.” (Joshua 14:7-8b,10 in part)
Caleb was a prime example of how God can sustain someone in health and strength far beyond their expectation into their prime. His claim was that he was as strong at 85 as he was at 45, simply by following the Lord’s commands. The Word is crucial for living the abundant life in every area.
